Another Sankranti has ended, and this year’s festive season saw multiple releases, with their box-office verdicts becoming almost clear based on their trends. However, one director and one film stood out this Sankranti, surprising everyone. That is none other than director Bobby Kolli.
Why do we say he came “out of syllabus”? If you look at his previous films, Waltair Veerayya, Venky Mama, Jai Lava Kusathey were all fairly average outings. Given this track record, no one expected Bobby to deliver such a technically superior film with Balakrishna’s Daaku Maharaaj.

Even though Bobby had a strong technical team on board, it’s the director’s responsibility to provide the vision and extract the best work from the technicians to match the story. That’s where this Sankranti Bobby made a solid impact. Those who watched Daaku Maharaaj for the first time were pleasantly surprised and could hardly believe it was directed by Bobby, considering his past films.
In today’s era, where technical quality significantly influences a film’s reception, Bobby hit the mark.

He delivered a decent, one-time watch film. However, one key piece of feedback for Bobby is that while the movie is performing well in Telugu states during Sankranti, the writing, particularly in terms of story and drama, could have been stronger. If more effort had gone into the screenplay to match the film’s technical finesse, Bobby would have been the talk of the town right now.
Moving forward, Bobby should focus on improving the emotional and narrative depth of his films. If he retains the same high technical standards while enhancing the writing and drama, he is bound to deliver a big surprise in the future. Among all the Sankranti releases, Bobby’s work was the one that surprised everyone the most.
