R. Balki is a director famously known for films like Padman, Cheeni Kum and Paa. He has many complaints with the current filmscape of Bollywood and talked candidly about it in one of his interviews.
He feels that the recent films released in the last 4-5 years are not worth any acclaim. They are just getting praised because of the star appeal.

People are willing to give around 500 rupees to watch crass material, so at the end they cannot even fully criticise them because it would be so foolish to pay so much. The films are themselves problematic in one or more parameters.
He might have taken a dig at films ranging from Animal to Gadar 2. Animal received a lot of backlash because of hyper-masculinity and misogyny, yet it made good numbers at the box office.

With Gadar 2 the nostalgic factor was something that drew fans to the theatres. It only went on to become a blockbuster due to the brand appeal of Gadar.
R. Balki feels that the current directors can learn a lot from yesteryear directors who gave a wholesome story. The entertainment was ethical and creativity remained at its peak.
