Unni Mukundan has expanded his fanbase ever since Marco was released in theatres last year. The film had a successful run with collections of almost Rs. 100 crores.
While the film also managed to gross Rs. 20 crores in the North Indian market with the Hindi-dubbed version, Unni Mukundan said in a recent interview that he is not willing to follow the path of Pan-Indian cinema so soon. He specifically expressed his doubts about a film’s success in such cases.

Unni said that if Mollywood starts to release Pan-Indian cinema, the filmmakers would focus on business instead of content because of which Malayalam films are well-known around the world. He said that art and storytelling play an important role in the success of a film.
He also mentioned certain methods that Malayalam cinema should follow to go ahead of other films. He stated that he would love to make films without compromising anything and the way he wants to make it.

Unni Mukundan’s Marco gained recognition as one of the most violent films ever made in the history of Malayalam cinema. It was loved by the single-screen audiences and there have been reports of people puking inside theatres due to the graphic nature of the film.
Despite certain complaints from a section of people for glorifying violence, Marco managed to leave a positive impression on everyone, opening the path of making similar films in the upcoming years.
