By Poulomi Saha: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday appointed Jaiveer Shergill as the party’s national spokesperson. He resigned as the Congress national spokesperson in August this year.

Further, former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Sunil Jakhar were made BJP national executive members.

Sunil Jakhar joined the BJP in May, just days after he resigned from the Congress.

Shergill’s resignation from the Congress in August created a controversy after he said the decision-making process in the party was based on “serving the interests of a few individuals and not the country and its people”.

In a letter to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, Jaiveer Shergill not only listed the reasons behind his move but also took swipes at the party leadership. He stated that the Congress is “consistently ignoring on-ground reality” and that the “vision of the party’s decision-makers is no longer in sync” with the aspirations of the youth.
