After the Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW) directed the Mumbai police on Monday (December 30, 2024) to take immediate action and submit a factual report on actor Prajakta Mali’s complaint against Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Suresh Dhas for allegedly making inappropriate remarks against her, the politician issued an apology.
“My statement regarding Prajakta Mali was misinterpreted. I had no intention to disrespect her or any other woman. Talking about her character was out of the question. I have respect for all women. If my statement has hurt her or any other woman, then I sincerely apologise,” Mr. Dhas said after the MSCW’s direction on Monday (December 30, 2024).
Ms. Mali had demanded apology from the BJP leader and lodged a complaint with the commission over Mr. Dhas’s alleged inappropriate and defamatory remarks against her over the murder of Beed sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh. She had said that his defamatory remarks had impacted her personal and social life and that the defamatory content was circulated on social media following his remarks.
The MSCW shared Ms. Mali’s letter on X (formerly Twitter) and said that it has received her complaint. The social media post came a day after Ms. Mali met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at his residence in Mumbai on Sunday (December 29, 2024). The CM had assured Ms. Mali and her family that the State will not tolerate any act of disrespect to women and appropriate action will be taken.
At a press conference on Saturday (December 28, 2024), Ms. Mali said that Mr. Dhas’s comments linking her with NCP Minister Dhananjay Munde was derogatory and that he had used her name for selfish interests.
