“Marriage hasn’t changed my life drastically. I still feel like Zaheer’s girlfriend, which is beautiful. The only difference is that I live with him now, instead of my parents’ house. I am grateful that my work life remained consistent, even after marriage. I was working before, and I am still working. Life has just become more beautiful, and I get to share it with someone special,” shared Sonakshi in an interview with Deccan Chronicle.
In January this year, Sonakshi Sinha answered a few questions from her fans by going live on her YouTube channel. When one fan asked her whether she thinks continuing to work after marriage is important, and how her husband Zaheer Iqbal supports her in her journey, Sonakshi Sinha replied, “That’s a deep and profound question. I feel that marriage should not be the thing that defines your life; it should be a part of your life. Marriage should add to your life, not take away from it.”
She added, “So whether you want to work after marriage or not, it completely depends on the woman involved. For me, working is really important because I love my job. I feel really happy when I wake up in the morning and go to work. I’m a creative person, so when I am creating something beautiful, it brings me a lot of joy. That’s why I continue to work after marriage. But if someone doesn’t want to work, that’s also their choice, and that’s perfectly fine.”
The actor also revealed how her husband Zaheer Iqbal supports her in her journey and said, “By being my biggest cheerleader I think Zaheer is the kind of person, meri khushi mein uski khushi hai, and when he sees me happy and thriving, he is the happiest. It’s very important that your partner supports you no matter what you do.”
Before the wedding, reports claimed that Sonakshi’s father, actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha was not happy with her decision. However, all rumours were put tp rest when Shatrughan attended the wedding and gave Sonakshi and Zaheer his blessings.

In an interview with Times Now, Shatrughan mentioned that people will always have something to say about others. “Anand Bakshi Saab has written about such professional protesters Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna. My daughter has done nothing illegal or unconstitutional. A marriage is a very personal decision between two people. No one has the right to interfere or comment. To all the protestors I say, ‘Go get a life. Do something useful with your life.’ Bas, aur kuch nahin kehna,” shared the happy dad.
Sonakshi too opened up about her relationship with her husband Zaheer, and their interfaith marriage. She once spoke about how the couple never had a conversation about religion.
In an exclusive conversation with Hauterrfly, Sonakshi once said, “We were not looking at religion. There are two people in love with each other who want to get married, and we were getting married. He is not enforcing his religion on me. I am not enforcing my religion on him. We never discussed anything about religion; we don’t sit and take.”
“We appreciate and understand each other’s cultures. They follow certain traditions at their home. I follow certain traditions at my house. He comes and sits at my Diwali Pooja. I go and sit at his Niyaz, and that’s all that matters, right?,” she asked.
“I respect them and their culture, and they respect me and mine. His entire family and I feel that is how it should be. Under the best circumstances, the best way to get married was the special marriage act, where I, as a Hindu woman, do not need to change my religion, and he, as a Muslim man, can remain a Muslim man, and two people in love can share a beautiful bond of marriage. So it was the best way; it was as simple as that. There was never a question asked,” added the star.
