2024 was a year filled with mixed emotions for Bollywood. They delivered hits, flops, anticipated hits that turned out to be flops, re-releases, and a lot of drama and chaos.
As the year comes to an end, let us take a trip down the Bolly-lane of films we got to witness this year.

This year was seasoned generously with the supernatural genre. We got Ajay Devgn’s Shaitaan, Sharvari and Abhay Verma’s Munjya, Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Stree 2, and Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.
While some of these films did well, others did not quite. Bhool Bhulaiya, despite being not at par with the first part and relying heavily on nostalgia, did pretty well.

The action genre fell short this year. Films like Singham Again, Yodha, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Fighter did not appeal to the audience as much as they had hoped.
The last quarter of the year was quite eventful for both theatres and OTT.

Films like Jigra, I Want To Talk, Pushpa, Bhool Bhulaiya 3, and Singham Again, all took over the theatres making it a busy time for theatre owners.
Agni, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, Sikandar Ka Mukaddar, Freedom At Midnight, Citadel: Honey Bunny, Vijay 69, we saw a good mix of films as well as series.
Some films had better potential in theatres if their calendars were planned properly. Many releases overlapped during the festivals not giving the chance for some films to work.
The year was also marked with a lot of re-releases. Witnessing the nostalgic magic of Shahrukh with films like Kal Ho Na Ho and Veer Zaara was magical. Other re-releases like Rockstar and Laila Majnu were fan favourites too.
Overall 2024 was a year of trying for Bollywood. The likes of the audience are dynamic and Bollywood can understand it only through trial and error.
Some films worked this year, while others not so much. Makers can only take feedback from them and try and deliver better films in the upcoming year.
