What began as a fun nostalgia trip for movie buffs is quickly spiraling into overkill—especially in Tollywood. The re-release trend, once reserved for all-time classics, is now bordering on saturation.
The latest addition? Mahesh Babu’s Bharat Ane Nenu, which is set to return to theatres on April 26. But let’s be honest—does this film really deserve a theatrical comeback?

Bharat Ane Nenu was a decent political drama when it was released in 2018. It had a respectable box office run and appealed to Mahesh’s loyal fanbase. But it’s no Pokiri or Okkadu.
It doesn’t have the mass hysteria or cult following that typically justifies a re-release, especially in an already overcrowded re-release calendar.

In recent months alone, we’ve seen Murari, SVSC, and Okkadu (yes, again!) re-released. And it’s not stopping there—Athidi 4K, Khaleja 4K, Athadu 4K, and even Takkari Donga 4K are queued up. It’s becoming too much, even for die-hard fans.
What was once a celebration of nostalgia is now starting to feel like blatant content recycling. With ticket prices on the rise and the re-releases coming one after another, many fans feel like they’re being emotionally—and financially—exploited.

This isn’t about honoring cinema anymore. It’s beginning to look like a calculated cash grab, preying on the fan base’s loyalty.
It’s high time the industry took a step back and asked itself: Are we truly celebrating these stars, or just milking nostalgia dry in the name of tribute?
