    BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Commitee interviews Gautam Gambhir, set to be named new India coach | Cricket News


    The BCCI‘s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) conducted an interview with former India opener and Kolkata Knigh Riders’ mentor Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday for the post Indian men’s team’s head coach as the tenure of current incumbent Rahul Dravid comes to a close after the ongoing T20 World Cup.
    “Yes, Gambhir appeared for the interview with the CAC. One round of discussions happened today.There is another round expected tomorrow,” a BCCI source told PTI about the zoom-call meeting between Gambhir and CAC chairman Ashok Malhotra.The details of the interaction between Gambhir and Malhotra, along with the two other CAC members, Jatin Paranjpe and Sulakshana Naik, are yet to be known.
    Gambhir is expected to be the sole candidate in the running for the position, with the announcement of his name being a mere formality that could occur within the next two days.
    An Apex Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday evening, during which secretary Jay Shah is expected to brief the members about the coach selection process before the official announcement is made.
    It is understood that the discussion centered around Gambhir’s vision for the next three years, which will include three ICC tournaments across various formats.
    The CAC is also conducting interviews for the North Zone selector’s position.
    The team is currently in Barbados for the Super 8 matches, having remained undefeated in the group league stage. They are set to face Afghanistan on June 20.
    Gambhir became the frontrunner for the India coach‘s role following KKR’s third IPL title triumph under Gambhir. He was the KRR captain in 2012 and 2014, and the team’s mentor for the 2024 season.
