Bangladesh MP case: 4 kg of flesh found in septic tank of complex | India News

KOLKATA: After nearly six days of search for murdered Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim Anar‘s body parts, investigators on Tuesday found 4 kg of flesh in the septic tank of the New Town housing complex where he was killed on May 13. Suspecting the flesh to be that of the MP, cops have sent it for forensic test.
“If the flesh found on Tuesday turns out to be that of a human, it would be that of Azim, whose body was skinned and chopped, after he was smothered to death. For the flesh to land in the septic tank, it had to be flushed down the commode,” said a source. Investigators had returned to the complex after efforts to locate body parts in the Bagjola canal failed to yield any result.
According to sources, it was Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detective branch chief Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid who had asked CID officers to check the septic tank after interrogating Bangladeshi butcher Jihad Howladar, arrested by CID, for over four hours. The main plotters had brought Jihad to Kolkata to ensure Azim’s body could be disposed of in such a way that it would be difficult to find any trace.
Rashid has also asked investigators to search a water body near the complex and a canal with a wooden bridge.
Sources said Bangladesh Police is considering conducting DNA tests of blood found in the flat to match the results with that of the Bangladesh MP’s kin. Trying to recover the knives and cleavers and establish from where they were procured, Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Tuesday visited a shopping mall in New Town. They suspect the knives were possibly locally procured by accused Shimul Bhuiyan alias Amanullah Aman.
The investigation has revealed there had been two earlier attempts on Azim and that the killers had been trailing the MP for a long time. Between Jan and May, Azim visited Kolkata thrice. On each occasion, the killers had also travelled to Kolkata, police said. Azim first arrived in Kolkata from Bangladesh on Jan 19, and key conspirator Akhtaruzzaman alias Shaheen arrived a day earlier. The same day, Bhuiyan who executed the murder plan, had also come to Kolkata. Two days later, Celesty Rahman, now in custody, had also arrived. Azim returned to Bangladesh on Jan 24, while Shaheen and Celesty on Jan 30. Shaheen next arrived in Kolkata on March 16, two days before Azim, who came on March 18.
Bangladesh police reported another woman had accompanied Celesty during her travel to and from India.
