For the first time in the last 27 years, team India has failed to win a ODI series in Sri Lanka and that has happened in the first series under the new head coach Gautam Gambhir.
After the first ODI game got tied due to poor batting by Indian lower order, the second ODI game went for a toss as the entire batting order except for Rohit Sharma had a horrid time.

Sri Lanka leads the 3-game ODI series 1-0 now and even if India wins the last game, they can only tie the series at 1-1. Things could even go south if India end up losing the game which looks like possibility now.
While Rohit has been absolutely spotless, the rest of the batting order has been rather weak and inconsistent.

If India is enduring such mishaps against non mainstream teams like Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, doubts are being raised about the capability of the side against top teams.
The real tests for India and Gambhir will start from October when the series against New Zealand will be commencing. This will determine if Gambhir could actually carve a champion side in his regime.
