Remakes are a good way to enjoy any regional and underrated film with high-profile Hindi actors but with the pace at which remakes are being made in the last couple of years, they are not more than flop copies of highly rated films.
While remakes were essential for some underrated masterpieces that were unavailable in Hindi, high-profile Tamil films whose Hindi-dubbed versions have already crossed millions of views on YouTube and TV channels never deserved a remake.

The same thing is happening with Varun Dhawan’s Baby John, which is a remake of the all-time blockbuster Theri. Judging by numbers, less than 10% of remakes have worked in Bollywood since the pandemic. This number is worrying as the only hit remakes are Drishyam 2 and Shaitaan.
The Nostalgia factor helped Drishyam 2 to get a favorable audience whereas Shaitaan’s success was boosted by the fact that the original film was nowhere to be found across OTT platforms.

While the list only covers two films, more than 20 Hindi remakes have failed to capture an audience since the pandemic.
Highly anticipated films like Jersey, Laal Singh Chaddha, Bachchan Paandey, Shehzada, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, and now Baby John are some of the remakes that failed at the box office. As 2025 approaches, Bollywood might move to newer and original ideas instead of remakes.

As the rate of flops keeps on increasing, it is essential for the makers to know that remakes are not in trend anymore, and avoiding these remakes would be the perfect choice. As many makers have stopped the trend, there are some who are still trying to capitalize on remakes.
Nevertheless, Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par and his son’s Loveyapa are also in the works which are again remakes of Spanish and Tamil films respectively. It remains to be seen if these films can overcome the remake curse of Bollywood or not.
