There has always been a debate around what is a reasonable amount of money to pay for an OTT subscription. When some of the biggest platforms like Netflix offer plans starting at ₹199 per month, paying anything more than that might seem costly. KableOne, an OTT platform dedicated for Punjabi entertainment has released the subscription rates and it is infuriating.
The yearly charges for the premium subscription costs an astonishing ₹4000. It makes it one of the most costly OTT platforms in the country. It is important to ask what content the platform will be offering at this amount.

The monthly subscription rate of KableOne is ₹600, which is close to what Netflix charges for the premium subscription. When Netflix has a library which cannot be matched by any other OTT, KableOne is a new platform and has a much smaller content library.
The target audience of this OTT is also going to be very specific however Punjabi is a language that is used and consumed in countries beyond India. It’ll be interesting to see how the pricing would affect the audience.
