In King County, Washington, a recent string of armed robberies has left Indian American convenience store owners and their communities feeling increasingly vulnerable. The latest incident took place at a 7-Eleven in Redmond, where three young men – described as teenagers wearing masks – entered the store on 148th Avenue Northeast around
11:30 p.m.
The suspects held the clerk at gunpoint, demanded cash and then, in a shocking turn of events, targeted a customer outside. As the customer approached the store, one of the suspects fired a shot in their direction before carjacking the customer’s vehicle.

Redmond Police Chief Darrell Lowe reported that following this robbery, the suspects drove to another 7-Eleven in Kirkland, where police intercepted them. A high-speed chase ensued, concluding only after the Washington State Patrol executed a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver to halt the stolen vehicle in Tukwila.
However, the suspects managed to escape on foot and remain at large. This marks the fifth armed robbery targeting this 7-Eleven location in the past two years, contributing to a concerning trend of crimes affecting Indian American owned stores throughout the area.

Many Indian American store owners have sacrificed greatly to build these businesses – often working long hours, shouldering the risks, and pouring their dreams into stores that serve as neighborhood cornerstones.
