Arizona State star Cam Skattebo ‘vomits profusely’ during dramatic overtime Peach Bowl loss to Texas

Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo was forced to endure a disgusting sideline moment before producing a stunning resurgence in Wednesday’s Peach Bowl.

The 22-year-old inspired a stunning comeback for the Sun Devils against Texas before it ultimately fell short in a 39-31 overtime thriller.

And, while the finish of the matchup didn’t end in fairytale fashion for Arizona, the beginning of Skattebo’s game wasn’t completely plain-sailing either.

The Longhorns’ defense produced a stellar job of holding off Arizona’s offense through the first two quarters and tensions appeared to boil over on the Sun Devils’ sideline.

Skattebo was caught yelling at his teammates and angrily slamming his helmet as the Sun Devils, already down multiple scores to Texas, continued to struggle.

Yet, things went from bad to worse for Skattebo, who finished fifth in last month’s Heisman Trophy voting, when he lost his lunch.

ESPN’s broadcast reported that the offensive star was ‘vomiting profusely’ on the sidelines during the fourth quarter,

However, Skattebo’s disgusting sideline moment appeared to have alleviated some of the tension as he came into his own.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Skattebo and Arizona finally managed to get their first touchdown on the board.

On fourth-and-2 from the Texas 42-yard line, Skattebo took a pitch and then threw a pass to Malik McClain, before the Sun Devils secured the two-point conversion to claw the score to 24-16 with 6:31 remaining.

That wasn’t the end of his heroics. After an interception of Quinn Ewers, Skattebo caught a 62-yard pass from Leavitt. He then wrapped up the drive by punching he way into the endzone to cut the lead to 24–22 before tying the game by scoring the two-point conversion.

He also put his team ahead for the first time all day with a three-yard touchdown run to start overtime against No. 4 Texas.

Skattebo finished with two rushing touchdowns and seven receptions for 86 yards.

However, the Sun Devils couldn’t hang on to pull off an upset over the Longhorns when an interception by Andrew Makuba finally ended a Peach Bowl quarterfinal classic in double overtime.

Arizona was on the verge of winning when Texas faced fourth-and-13 on its first overtime possession. But Quinn Ewers found Matthew Golden breaking free behind two defenders to haul in a 28-yard touchdown.

After moving to the opposite end of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Ewers threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Gunnar Helms on the very next play, followed by a two-point conversion pass to Golden.

The Longhorns finally put Arizona State (11-3) away when Makuba picked off Sam Leavitt’s pass at the 3 to end the game.
