Uk Visa

As immigration is rising in the UK, the Labour Party is looking to facilitate the deportation of illegal immigrants. In this environment, a major political figure has announced a drastic step to fight this issue.

Robert Jenrick, the leading candidate to succeed Rishi Sunak as the face of the Conservative Party, has proposed his new restriction of visas for countries refusing to take back illegal immigrants. He further specifically targeted India in his announcement.

According to him, the UK issued around 250,000 visas to Indian nationals out of which 100,000 are still living in the country illegally. Jenrick appealed to PM Starmer to impose severe restrictions on visas and foreign aid on the back of it.

India and the UK signed a memorandum in 2021 to facilitate the return of illegal immigrants. However, that hasn’t come to fruition contributing to the diplomatic tensions.

It might become a cause of concern down the line, but it doesn’t affect the current climate much. Even if Robert Jenrick is elected the leader of the Conservative Party on November 2 he will assume the role of opposition in the UK.

With their disastrous loss earlier this year, the Tories don’t have much voting power in the parliament. While the Labour Party is also trying to tackle the immigration problem their stance is not as drastic as Jenrick, bringing some relief to Indians.
