Amidst the rumors of Apple launching a foldable MacBook, news comes in that the new model might come in 2026. Apple is rumored to be gearing up to release an all-screen, foldable MacBook for 2026, which may cost quite a bit.
Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that Apple could ship over 1 million devices with a 20-inch folding display in 2026. Earlier he had estimated that Apple would start shipping the new ‘rumoured MacBook’ in 2027.
‘MacBook of the future’: Just a speculation
On Thursday, in a blog post, giving examples from a survey, the supply-chain analyst at TF International Securities said that the product, Apple’s first foldable-screen device, could measure 20.25 inches. Ming-Chi Kuo also added that though “Apple is also considering using an 18.8 panel instead.”
“The target mass production schedule for the panel and assembly is Q4
Earlier, Ross Young, a supply chain analyst had drawn attention with his estimation about Apple’s 20-inch foldable in 2022. Later on the rumour was backed up by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. At that time, Gurman said that the iPad / MacBook hybrid could feature a dual-screen display without a physical keyboard and trackpad.
To be or not to be!
Kuo suggests that Apple might be working with LG Display to make the folding screen as ‘crease-free’ as possible. He adds that Apple can bring an OLED display to the iPad or MacBook, which can be ‘costly’ when produced on a large scale.
However, Kuo believes that “if production yields improve significantly by the time of mass production, these costs could decrease.” Additionally, “ Due to the more defined product positioning of the foldable MacBook, the shipments are expected to be significantly higher than those of the Vision Pro. Shipments are estimated to exceed 1 million units in 2026,” Kuo says.
Kuo also suggested that the MacBook could also come with a yet-to-be-announced M5 chip. On May 7, when Apple had introduced the new iPad Pro, the tech giant introduced the M4, boasting it to be an “outrageously powerful chip for AI.”
However, all these speculations are yet to be executed. But in case it does , this could be a boon for Apple after the mixed success of the headset launched earlier this year.
