Anthony Albanese hits back at footy great Nathan Brown over post-match act

  •  Anthony Albanese says he’s ‘absolutely not’ a bandwagon jumper
  •  Nathan Brown said he was ‘sickened’ by seeing PM in footy sheds
  •  Albanese says Jeff Kennett can vouch the he’s a diehard Hawks fan

Aussie PM and diehard Hawks supporter Anthony Albanese has returned serve at Footy Show host Nathan Brown over the Prime Minister’s decision to visit Hawthorn’s dressing rooms.

Albanese was spotted beaming in the sheds after the Hawks downed the Western Bulldogs earlier this month in an elimination final.

Brown, who currently works as a commentator for Triple M and is one of the hosts of Nine’s Sunday Footy Show, wasn’t at all happy about him being there.

‘I feel like the Prime Minister, this was for the good of himself going into the Hawthorn rooms. This sickens me,’ Brown said in a Footy Show segment.

‘Anthony Albanese, he had a look at the polls and he thought Peter Dutton is closing, he’s in front there’s a gap. He feels like, “I need to look like a common man. I’m going to go into the Hawthorn rooms”.

‘Give it up, Albo, no-one is buying it.’

The PM has now fired back at Brown, explaining how it would be silly of him to claim to be a Hawthorn supporter when the high-flying Swans are doing so well.

‘To Nathan Brown I say, mate, if you chose this year, when you’re from Sydney, to not say you’re a Swans supporter when they’ve been the favourites for the flag all year, when the Hawks began with five straight losses – then that would be a pretty dumb thing to do,’ he said in a clip shown on the Footy Show on Sunday morning.

The PM said Jeff Kennett could confirm that he has been a diehard Hawks supporter for decades.

‘I’ve joined the Swans when they were part of ‘Save our Swans’ when they were in trouble, but I’ve always stayed loyal to the Hawks because you can’t change team,’ he said.

Mr Albanese went on to say that he was ‘absolutely not’ a bandwagon jumper.

It comes after Channel 9 personality Tony Jones slammed the PM for appearing with the Hawks in the sheds during the regular season, singing the team song with the players.

‘He has no interest in AFL. And there he was there… he’s got the scarf around…. just go away.

‘Seriously, when will Prime Minister’s learn to stay in your lane and that’s normally in the House of Representatives.’
