Today is Thespian Akkineni Nageswara Rao’s 100th Jayanthi. It’s been a decade since he left this mortal world but not before leaving a profound mark on the Telugu people.

With more than 250 films to his credit, ANR’s contribution to Telugu cinema is unparalleled. Whether it was mythological, historical, or social dramas, he brought an unmatched authenticity to each role. Some of the classic films of ANR – Devadasu, Prema Nagar, Premabhishekam, Sudigundalu, Maya Bazaar, Gundamma Kathalu, Misamma, etc are a celebration of Telugu Cinema.
ANR may be the only actor to have got a perfect cinematic ending to his career as he shot till his last breath and to his perseverance, the film Manam was a fitting tribute to his career as it became another classic and he happened to share the screen with the next three generations of his family.

ANR alongside NTR will be forever a torch-bearer of Telugu Cinema. His involvement in producing films and his leadership in setting up Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad helped the industry move from Chennai to here. It was the first step in creating some of the World’s best cinema infrastructure and millions of jobs in Hyderabad.

ANR’s personal life is equally inspirational. He stayed away from controversies despite being a straight-forward man. Despite his contemporaries trying their luck in Politics, ANR always stayed away. His Parallel, NT Ramarao became the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. ANR was clear about his priorities. He always wanted to lead a simple life outside films and he stayed that way till the end.
He lived a complete life and left a legacy that his family members and the audience neatly and satisfactorily celebrate. As they say, ANR Lives On…!
