Stand-up comedian Swati Sachdeva recently came under massive fire, facing public backlash over her ‘vibrator’ joke.
The joke, which mostly consisted of a hypothetical conversation between a mother and a daughter after the mother discovers a vibrator in her daughter’s bedroom, did not sit well with the general public.

Social media users just could not fathom the idea of involving one’s parents in such a way, that too for a joke many considered to be highly ‘vulgar’.
Questions soon began to be raised about Swati’s character, with several online personas making her the next target of an Allahbadia-styled bashing.

Comedians need to be careful while making borderline controversial jokes in a conservative-dominant country like India.
At the same time, the public needs to learn some tolerance and accept that they do not have to like everything they see on the internet.

If someone doesn’t like a piece of content or finds it to be unsuitable for them, then they should simply click away from it, preserving their own sanity as well as that of the world.
As for Swati, it will be interesting to see if she will face the same fate as Ranveer Allahbadia, or will this incident be forgotten as the public anger cools off.
