Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Roshan has banned animal or bird sacrifice during the Sri Yellamma Devi Jatre to be held in Kokatanur, Athani taluk in Belagavi district, from Tuesday.
He issued orders under the Karnataka Prevention of Animal Sacrifice Act 1959 and subsequent rules and BNSS Section 163.
Earlier, president of the World Animal Welfare Board and Animal Sacrifice Abolition Awareness Mahasangha Sri Dayanand Swamiji appealed to the State government and the district administration seeking the ban which will be in force till the Jatre ends on December 31.
