A successful film always contributes to the popularity of an actor or director. But there has been hardly a moment in the last 20 years where a writer was able to get the status of a celebrity.

Still, if we go back in time to the 70s and 80s, we are familiar with two names, Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, who managed to build their status as celebrity writers by delivering 22 hit films. With three episodes and an estimated runtime of 40 minutes each, Angry Young Men introduces us to the world of Salim-Javed which is completely different compared to the writers that exist in today’s film industry.

A major reason why Salim-Javed’s films were considered to be different was because they prioritized a hero’s presentation on screen. The same thing was impossible in a film where the lead actor is subdued or the story’s sole focus is to make the romantic track between two characters successful in the end.

Apart from this, the audience’s response outside the big screen was something that would never happen in the future. While theatres are running empty nowadays with hardly anyone waiting in queue to buy a ticket, people used to wait outside the ticket windows throughout the day to pay and watch their favorite star.

The documentary is a learning lesson for the directors of today’s generation. 2024 has been a bad year for Bollywood and this particular documentary is the only way for the filmmakers to change their way and bring back the lost glory of Hindi cinema.
