Andhra Student Jaahnavi Kandula’s Killer Cop Fired: Is it Enough?

Andhra Student Jaahnavi Kandula’s Killer Cop Fired: Is it Enough?

A Seattle police officer who killed an Andhra student in January 2023 has finally been fired. However, his case sheds a negative light on the US judicial system that protects and harbors these abusive individuals.

Jaahnavi Kandula, a 23-year-old Telugu student, was run over by Kevin Dave two years ago when he was responding to a drug overdose call. Despite his destination being just 3 minutes away, Dave was overspeeding way beyond the limit at 119 kmph.

This recklessness and rash driving ended a young life, leaving a family waiting for justice. Shortly after the incident, body-cam footage of Officer Daniel Auderer laughing about Jaahnavi’s death and dismissing her life as having “limited value” added to the outrage but the judiciary turned a blind eye to all of it.

Auderer, who had a long history of abusive behavior, was fired in 2024 but neither he nor Dave has faced any criminal charges as of yet. The Seattle Police Department claims that Dave’s “intentions” were good and he never meant to harm anyone during a drug bust, which reeks of a cover-up.

Two years later, Jaahnavi’s family is left with nothing but empty words and unanswered questions. They will only get relief when the man behind their daughter’s death is put behind bars not roaming freely in the open.
