Amazon Go opens in Woodland Hills with ‘Just Walk Out’ technology – Daily News

Amazon has expanded its hands-free retail concept with the opening a new Amazon Go store in Woodland Hills, the company’s third Southern California location.

The store, at 22001 Ventura Blvd., opened for business at 6 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1.

Like other Amazon Go locations in Whittier and Torrance, the Woodland Hills store will feature ‘Just Walk Out’ technology, which allows customers to shop, buy what they need and leave without going through a checkout line or self-service kiosk.

Customers who opt for Just Walk Out shopping can enter by scanning the in-store QR code in their Amazon app, using Amazon One or by inserting a credit or debit card to open Just Walk Out gates.

“It’s really a modern take on the convenience store,” company spokeswoman Ayesha Harper said recently. “Most of our customers are busy people who want to get in, find what they need and get out.”

With a footprint of 5,000 square feet, including 2,400 square feet of retail space, the store will offer a wide selection of grab-and-go food and beverage items, including beer, wine and spirits, as well as everyday essentials consumers might need in a pinch.

The store’s centerpiece is its made-to-order kitchen, which offers nearly 30 freshly prepared breakfast and lunch items, including breakfast bowls, burritos, hot and cold deli sandwiches, salads and wraps.

It also features specialty beverages on tap and self-serve Pinkberry Fro-yo. A variety of locally produced food and beverage items will be available from such businesses as LOV Bakery in Los Angeles, Smog City Brewing Co. in Torrance and Three Weavers Brewing Co. in Inglewood, among others.

Amazon said the stores have incorporated upgrades that help lower energy use and minimize their carbon footprint, including all-electric kitchens and water heating and heat pumps for heating and cooling the stores, with no onsite natural gas combustion.
