Payal Kapadia’s directorial venture All We Imagine As Light has gained the status of an international cinematic masterpiece after winning the Cannes Grand Prix. Kapadia has also won the l’Oeil d’Or prize at Cannes in 2021 for her documentary film A Night of Knowing Nothing. All We Imagine As Light is a joint production of various Indian and international film houses. It stars Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam and Hridhu Haroon in a dramatic narrative of two nurses who undertake a road trip amidst troubled relationships.
The film itself is embarking on a trip to different film festivals across the globe in the coming months. It will be screening at various places that includes BFI London Film Festival, Rialto Australia and New Zealand, Camera Film Denmark, Beta Film in Bulgaria amongst others. It has also signed to film companies from around the world, including Edko Films, Mozinet, Bio Paradis, and others, bringing unique perspectives to the global cinema scene, spanning Hong Kong to Turkey and many countries in between.

It is notable that this was the first Indian film to compete in the Cannes Film Festival in 30 years. The film will also be released in France, New York and Los Angeles. Cinemas in the UK and Ireland will screen the film from 29 November. Payal Kapadia has made a mark for Indian cinema with her film and it should be brought to notice beyond its selective screenings in film festivals. With its expansion all over the international film festivals, we can hope that it will come to public notice too!
