As Apple is all set to host WWDC 2024 from June 10, rumours come in that Apple plans to introduce AI-powered Siri.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this new update will allow Siri to analyse the activity on your phone and trigger customised functions after a prompt by the user. The report also highlighted that at the start iOS users will be only able to control features in apps made by Apple, but the company is “planning to support hundreds of different commands.”
From what it is understood, in an exciting future development, iOS 18 might bring significant improvements to Siri. This can include enhanced contextual understanding and more control over different apps.
What’s the update!
During the initial stage, the new Siri is expected to handle one command at a time. However, rumoredly Apple has plans to allow users to chain commands together.
The report further states, “At the start, the new Siri will handle one command at a time, but Apple has plans to allow users to chain commands together. For example, they could ask Siri to summarise a recorded meeting and then text it to a colleague in one request. Or an iPhone could theoretically be asked to crop a picture and then email it to a friend.”
Experts suggest that with proposed future development, Siri should be able to open multiple documents, transfer notes between folders, send or delete mails and open a specific report in Apple News, among others.
What’s next?
As Gurman reports, “The new system will allow the assistant to control and navigate an iPhone or iPad with more precision. That includes being able to open individual documents, moving a note to another folder, sending or deleting an email, opening a particular publication in Apple News, emailing a web link, or even asking the device for a summary of an article…It will be limited to Apple’s own apps at the beginning, with the company planning to support hundreds of different commands.”
Furthermore, the new proposed feature is expected to arrive before next year. Gurman also explained that it would be more complex to implement so, it seems like all we can do is only expect it to be released with subsequent iOS 18 updates in 2025.
