Ahead of 20 years of ‘Gadar’, director Anil Sharma spills the beans on the much-awaited sequel of the movie – Times of India

Anil Sharma’s ‘Gadar’ became a blockbuster when it released in 2001. The Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel starrer has received cult status in Bollywood today. As the film clocks 20 glorious years on June 15, the director opened up about why the film is still relevant after 20 years.

Talking to a news portal about the same, Anil Sharma said that he can make the film without any changes today and it will be a bigger success. According to him, it is a realistic film and the youth is sure to connect with it.

Elaborating further, the filmmaker added that ‘Gadar’ has the elements of Ramayana in it. Lord Rama went to Lanka to get Sita and according to him, they have followed a similar plot in the film which is why they identify with the story even after all these years.

Ever since the film, the director has been asked about the sequel of the movie many times. Spilling some beans on the same, Sharma added the day he cracks the right plot that will offer a combination of drama and realism, he will start working on the sequel. The filmmaker also stated that his son Utkarsh, who played Sunny’s son Jeeta in the film, has grown up, so there is scope for a second instalment.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Anil is currently planning the sequel of ‘Apne’ which will bring the Deols together once again. Apart from Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby Deol, the second instalment will also star Sunny’s son Karan Deol in a key role.
