Netflix Gandhari

Netflix has recently announced a new collaboration of writer Kanika Dhillon with Taapsee Pannu, titled Gandhari. Dhillon is known for her work in Haseen Dilruba and its sequel, which also featured Taapsee in the lead.

The upcoming action thriller film was confirmed through the streaming platform’s official Instagram page with a video. The clip had a voiceover by Taapsee who says that a mother’s blessing is always around, but she would turn the world upside down when it comes to her child.

Although detailed information on the rest of the cast members and a release date are currently awaited, the new project has also raised a question of whether it would lead to further trouble for the streaming platform. Notably, Netflix landed itself in controversy last month after being accused of hurting religious sentiments in Anubhav Sinha’s IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack.

Considering that the film will focus on action, the lead character might be portrayed as getting involved in a lot of violent acts. This would not be accepted by a section of the audience who are very serious when it comes to their religion and culture.

The reason for the same would be the title, which is a name linked to Mahabharata. In case the lead character appears in a way that shows some kind of disrespect, it might bring problems for the producers.

There is no answer to the question of whether Gandhari would lead to another controversy. This will depend on how Dhillon has penned the screenplay. The issue can be avoided if Dhillon has not written anything objectionable. A minor mistake could also lead to the re-emergence of the criticism that resulted from Dhillon’s tweets.
