Aamir Khan's Film Laapataa Ladies As India's Official Entry

Kiran Rao’s directorial Hindi Film, Laapata Ladies, has been selected as India’s official entry to Oscars 2025. The Film Federation of India officially announced Laapata Ladies as India’s official entry to the 97th Academy Awards.

Laapata Ladies was produced by Bollywood Superstar Aamir Khan and had its theatrical release earlier this year. It features Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Srivastava and Nitanshi Goel in the lead roles.

The movie follows the journey of two newly-wed brides who are accidentally switched while en route to their respective husbands’ homes.

Various films were in the race, including Hanuman, Kalki 2898 AD, animal, Chandu Champion, Sam Bahadur, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, Good Luck, Gharat Ganpati, Maidaan, Joram, Kottukaali, Jama, Article 370, Aattam, Aadujeevitham, and All We Imagine As Light.

Laapata Ladies, Thangalaan, Vaazhai, Ullozhukku and Srikanth made it to the final five list of the jury. Eventually, Laapata Ladies has been selected from the lot.

All We Imagine As Light, which won the Grand Prix Award at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, was shockingly snubbed by the FFI in the Oscar selection.

Last year, Malayalam film 2018 was selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars but it couldn’t make it to the final nominations in the Best International Film category.
