How to pet a wolf in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1

In Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1, there is a brand new game mechanic. Over the past few seasons, there have been a lot of changes introduced to the game, largely beginning with new mechanics in Chapter 3 Season 1.

That season introduced sprinting and mantling, which have completely revolutionized the game. Since then, a few other mechanics have come along, largely involving wildlife.

Wildlife have been around for a while, but they can now be tamed and ridden. When riding them, they can also be pet.

This feature doesn’t add anything to the gameplay, but it is fun and was the subject of a recent challenge. Here’s how to do it.

Petting a wolf or boar in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1: A complete step-by-step guide

Step 1: Start a match

Please note that the lobby doesn’t look exactly like this, as this was the lobby in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4.

Once you’re in the lobby, select the game mode you want to play. For this, it should be a game mode that can complete challenges and has wildlife, which is the vast majority of them.

Start a match in Team Rumble, Solo, Duos, Trios, or even Squads. Any of them will suffice for this challenge. Team Rumble is the preferred mode if you’re just looking to complete the challenge and quit the game.

Step 2: Land somewhere where there is wildlife

Wildlife can be found in most areas, but the ones with grass (non-snow) generally spawn more wildlife, which will make this entire endeavor a lot easier. Check in and around the following POIs:

  • Breakwater Bay
  • The Citadel
  • Shattered Slabs
  • Frenzy Fields

Find a wildlife, but don’t kill it.

Step 3: Tame the wildlife

Taming wildlife is relatively simple. All you need to do is find one and jump on its back. This can be easier said than done if they are running around, so be quick to do it before they begin chasing you.

This can alternatively be done with meat from a different animal, but it’s much easier to do by simply jumping on its back.

Step 4: Try to emote

Once on the wildlife’s back, all you need to do is press to bring up the emote wheel. The button will differ by console or platform. You can’t emote on the back of an animal, but attempting to do so will allow you to reach over and pet the animal.

That’s all you have to do. It doesn’t add much, but it does make the wolf or boar very happy.
