In a major twist, StarSports gave a massive hint and tweeted, “Hardik Pandya is ready to kick-start the New Year with a bang against the Asian T20I Champions! BelieveInBlue & get ready to witness some action from this new TeamIndia under the Hardik ‘Raj.’”
However, after accidentally revealing the new skipper, the tweet was taken down and a new tweet was posted after some time. The new tweet reads, “Hardik Pandya is ready to kick-start the New Year with a bang against the Asian T20I Champions! #BelieveInBlue & get ready to witness some 🔥 action from this new #TeamIndia”

InsideSport earlier reported about Pandy’s captaincy in the T20 series against SriLanka. Rohit Sharma, who is still recovering from a thumb injury is likely to return for the ODI series. The outgoing selection committee led by Chetan Sharma will be picking the two white-ball Indian squads for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka by 27th December, Tuesday.
29-year-old Hardik last played for India in the T20I series against New Zealand in November. He led the team to a 1-0 victory. After that he returned back to India and took a break. He is currently training at the NCA in Bengaluru. For the T20I series, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul are likely to be rested. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja too are unlikely to be picked for the T20 series. The duo is still recovering from injury.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has announced the squads for the series with Dasun Shanaka set to lead them in both T201s and ODIs. He also has two deputies in Wanindu Hasaranga and Kusal Mendis. The T20Is will kickstart at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from 3rd January. After the T20Is, the three-match ODI series will begin at Guwahati on 10th January.
