Mumbai News Live Updates (October 7): Angry family members and relatives of the deceased staged protest and sat on the street after Chief minister Eknath Shinde visited the seven-storey residential building in the evening, but left without meeting the affected families. Seven people, including two minors, were killed and 68 were injured in a blaze at a seven-storey building in Mumbai’s Goregaon West early on Friday. Police were seen struggling in convincing the angry families as they demanded to meet the CM. Shinde directed officials to carry out fire audits of all Slum Rehabilitation Authority buildings, as per PTI. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 to those injured in the fire mishap.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Office on Friday took over the coordination and control of a year-long women empowerment mission that was to be run by Women and Child Welfare department, held by Ajit Pawar-affiliated Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) minister Aditi Tatkare. The move comes on the backdrop of the Ajit Pawar group having its way in the redistribution of district guardian ministership, announced two days ago.

In other news, a central security agency has received an email threatening to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi and blow off the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad and demanded Rs 500 crore and release of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Mumbai police have also stepped up security as the city would also host five World Cup matches at the Wankhede stadium, a police source said. Mumbai police is also trying to find out the source of the email, the source added.
