A few days ago, a Mahindra Scorpio-N tumbled off the edge of a hill into a house, flipping upside down in the process. Remarkably, the two passengers inside the vehicle emerged unscathed, demonstrating the SUV’s safety features. Let’s take a closer look at the battered Mahindra Scorpio-N to understand how its sturdy structure protected the occupants.
An inspection of the Mahindra Scorpio-N after the accident reveals how effectively its structure absorbed the impact. The vehicle landed upside down and was later retrieved using a crane. The initial impact appears to have occurred at the front, where most of the force was absorbed.
Despite resting on its roof, the car’s pillars appear to be intact. The cabin remained uncompromised, and the roof stayed in place. In many instances, roofs collapse when the pillars give way, causing harm to passengers. However, the door frame sustained significant damage, and while there are dents on the roof, it did not cave in.

It also appears that the occupants inside the vehicle were using seatbelts, which likely prevented them from being thrown around and sustaining further injuries.
How did the accident occur?
In an attempt to avoid colliding with a scooter rider, the Scorpio-N crashed into a parked scooter, causing significant damage. Since the Mahindra Scorpio-N is a Rear rear-wheel drive (RWD) vehicle, it can lose control on loose gravel and spin out, as seen in this case.
There are videos of the same Scorpio-N performing doughnuts on public roads. While there is no video evidence or dashboard camera footage of the accident, we cannot comment on the accuracy of the events as described by the YouTuber. However, it appears to be an extreme accident where the Scorpio-N’s robust structure protected the passengers.
The Mahindra Scorpio-N is a 5-star-rated car in terms of safety. It achieved a score of 29.25 out of 34 in adult occupant protection and 28.94 out of 48 in child occupant protection. The Scorpio-N also performed exceptionally well in the side impact test, which is assessed under the latest test protocol.
Global N-CAP has determined that the Mahindra Scorpio-N offers good protection for the driver’s and passenger’s necks. However, the protection for the driver’s and passengers’ chests is rated as marginal. In the side impact test with a deformable barrier, the Scorpio-N scored an impressive 16 out of a total of 17 points. The SUV also received an OK rating for the side pole impact test, although the chest region of the occupants received a “weak” rating.
