Bigger MacBook Air coming! 15.5-inch display with new Apple M2 chip planned

Apple could announce a bigger 15.5-inch MacBook Air in Spring 2023, suggests a new leak. Check details.

The MacBook Air is about to go bigger soon. Earlier this year, the MacBook Air got its first major redesign in years, getting a bigger 13.6-inch display and a new design. The MacBook Air 2022 also got to debut the new M2 chipset, promising superior performance and power efficiency. Apple is, however, not done yet and within the first few months of 2023, we will get to see a bigger MacBook Air. How big, you ask? How about a large 15.5-inch display?

Yes, according to a new tip from DSCC’s Ross Young, Apple is planning a new 15.5-inch MacBook Air in the Spring of 2023. This is a completely new size for the MacBook lineup, and is likely to sit between the 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro. The design of the laptop is most likely to ape the 13.6-inch MacBook Air, with a similar display notch and a sleek design.

15.5-inch MacBook Air could launch in 2023

The 15.5-inch MacBook Air’s display panels will go into production in the first quarter of 2023. Apple could announce the 15.5-inch MacBook Air at the same price point as the 14-inch MacBook Air. Rumours suggest that Apple could announce this 15.5-inch laptop with the M2 chip as well as a new M2 Pro chip.

    Not sure which
    laptop to buy?

The bigger MacBook Air could also get upgraded speakers, a bigger capacity battery, and retain the same Magsafe charging port. Apple may, however, continue using the same IPS LCD display instead of the mini LED display it uses on the Pro variants.

What remains to be seen is how well does Apple price the 15.5-inch MacBook Air. The 13.6-inch MacBook Air M2 is currently getting price discounts across several markets. In India, the base MacBook Air M2 can be purchased at a price of Rs. 1.05 lakhs, which is a great deal. Apple also continues to sell the M1 powered MacBook Air in several markets at a much lower entry price.

In other news, rumours suggest that the 2024 MacBook Air 13-inch model may get to use an OLED display with a higher refresh rate of up to 120Hz.
