Tata Motors recently introduced the facelifted Nexon and the updated Nexon EV in the domestic market and is planning to bring in a host of new models over the next twelve months. The homegrown auto major is expected to launch the electric version of the Punch next and it has already been caught testing multiple times on public roads.

The Tata Punch EV or Punch.ev will become the first ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) platform based model to feature an all-electric powertrain and spy images indicate that the charging port will be mounted on the front fender while the existing EV lineup comprising Tiago EV, Tigor EV and Nexon EV have the charging port where the fuel filler cap is at traditionally.

The test mules of the Tata Punch EV also show the presence of a number of details and interior features found in the facelifted Nexon and Nexon EV. Some of the design elements mimic them as well as the closed-off front grille and a full-width LED light bar are expected to be available along with vertical slats on the upper and lower bumper sections.

The IC-engined Tata Punch’s split headlamp cluster and the LED Daytime Running Light positioned below the bonnet line will stay put while the rear will get its share of changes too. The interior will feature a larger floating touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and in-car connected tech.

Other premium equipment such as a two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel with an illuminated logo, an all-digital instrument console, six airbags, a 360-degree camera system, capacitive HVAC controls, wireless smartphone charger, updated dashboard and centre console with new gear lever selector, etc will likely be available.

The Tata Punch EV will adopt the Ziptron technology and it could be offered in multiple variants and probably two battery options. The five-seater electric SUV could have a claimed range of close to 350 km on a single charge. It will be positioned above the Tiago EV and Tigor EV.
