Germany vs Japan: Brandt and Muller on for the final 20

70’ — Sub: Brandt and Muller are on the pitch!

60’— The stadium has resorted to booing the team while they pass the ball. It’s that bad.

45’ — The second half is underway!

    Halftime: Germany 1-2 Japan. Yeah.

22’ — Goal. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? IT’S 2-1 courtesy of Ayase. The left side of the defense is a disaster.

19’ — GOOOOOAL! Leroy Sane makes it 1-1! Phew.

11’ — Goal. And Germany are already 1-0 down.

    Kickoff: We’re underway!

One hour until kickoff: We have lineups! It’s the exact XI we expected, with no real changes. Hansi Flick needs this to work if he wants to stay in charge of Germany until the Euros. Let’s see how it goes for him.

It’s now do or die for Germany. This game against Japan isn’t just a friendly game, it’s a last chance for this version of the German national team. If the players don’t turn it around now, Hansi Flick and his coaching staff will not make it to the Euros next summer.

Right now, the idea is to put Joshua Kimmich at right-back and have Kai Havertz at striker and hope things work out elsewhere on the pitch. Ilkay Gundogan is the new captain of the team and he’s likely to pair with Emre Can in midfield. It’s a lineup that will have players from Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Real Madrid, and other top teams across Europe.

If the results don’t come now, things become very difficult for Hansi Flick. Can he save his job?

    2. If the comments section starts to slow down for you, just hit the refresh button and keep commenting. It’s not necessary to have the whole comments loaded at one time while you’re just casually following along.
    3. Keep the sorting to “newest” to easily follow the conversation. It puts the newest comments at the top.
    4. Here at BFW we celebrate every goal like they do in the stadium: with a chant. The goal chants are for everyone to participate in! Even if you’re lagging behind the others, keep replying to the most recent call of the player’s name. Even if you missed the first call, just start from the second, and so on.
    5. While swearing is allowed within reason, please be polite to your fellow posters and avoid gratuitous obscenities. Racist, homophobic, and misogynistic language is not allowed whatsoever.
