    SC junks Bengal govt’s plea against CBI probe into municipality recruitment scam | India News

    The Supreme Court Monday rejected the West Bengal government’s plea challenging the Calcutta High Court order directing probe into municipality recruitment irregularities matter by the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate, news agency ANI reported.

    A bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud also remarked that it was satisfied that the teacher recruitment scam was linked with municipal irregularities.

    The recruitment scam pertains to the hiring of thousands of teachers across Bengal’s educational system in 2016.

    A series of petitions were filed in the High Court alleging anomalies in the recruitment process, and several cases were taken up by the court. The petitioners alleged that many examinees who got less marks ranked high in the merit list. There were also allegations that some applicants, who weren’t even in the merit list, received appointment letters.
