The video was first shared by a retired Army officer, Lt Col N Thiagarajan. The retired army officer wrote, “In what world is this just? This is the pathetic condition of an army soldier on duty in Kashmir kneeling down to save his wife in Tamilnadu.”
In another tweet, Lt Col (retd) Thiagarajan said, “A serving army soldier’s wife was badly hit and molested by the local goons and was admitted at the GH Vellore, adukkamparai, TN. I have spoken to her personally, she is undergoing severe pain and trauma.” He also requested Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin to extend suitable medical help to save her life.

In the video, the soldier said that her wife, who runs a shop on a lease, was beaten up by 120 men and the items in the shop were thrown out. The jawan further stated that he had sent a petition to SP and even requested Tamil Nadu’s DGP for help.
The Indian army’s Northern Command issued a statement in this regard. “An Indian Army soldier in uniform gave a statement fearing for the safety of his family. Army has already contacted the Police authorities who have assured all help post-investigation. One of the accused has already been arrested. Action is at hand to arrest others…Police have assured safety of the family,” the Northern Command said in the statement.

Meanwhile, the army jawan’s wife also alleged that she was touched inappropriately by the accused. “More than 40 people attacked me. They verbally abused me with obscene language. They touched me inappropriately. They are not allowing our family to live. They are threatening me,” said the wife of the Army jawan in Vellore.

However, the state police refuted the charges levelled by the army soldier. After the preliminary probe, the Kandhavasal Police called the statement “exaggerated”. As per the police, the shop currently being run by the soldier’s wife was built on land belonging to Renugambal temple. It was leased to Prabhakaran’s father-in-law, Selvamurthy, for Rs 9.5 lakh for a period of five years by Kumar, reported India Today.
Kumar died and his son, Ramu, wanted to get his shop back. Ramu reportedly agreed to return the money given by Selvamurthy. Notably an agreement was also signed between the two parties on February 10 this year. As per Ramu, Selvamurty refused to take the money and also not denied vacating the shop.
An altercation broke out on June 10 between Ramu and Selvamurthy’s sons, Jeeva and Udhaya. As per the report, they attacked Ramu. The altercation further escalated. The police claimed that at the time of the incident, Prabahakaran’s wife and her mother were inside the shop, however, nothing happened to them.
The police registered an FIR and two people, including Ramu were reportedly arrested in connection with the matter.
