India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, expressed his frustration as the Indian bowlers struggled to make an impact on the first day of the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. Sharma was visibly upset and waved his hand in annoyance while speaking in an irritated tone to one of his players.
The match, held at the Kennington Oval in London on June 7, saw India winning the toss and inviting Australia to bat in overcast conditions.
India had an early breakthrough when Mohammed Siraj dismissed Usman Khawaja for a duck. However, David Warner’s 43 runs boosted Australia’s innings, and an aggressive half-century by Travis Head guided them to a score of 170/3 at tea on the opening day.
During the 39th over, Rohit Sharma was clearly upset about something as Ravindra Jadeja prepared to bowl. He exclaimed, “Kya yaar tum log” (What are you guys doing), followed by a common Hindi expletive and hand gestures, indicating his dissatisfaction.
In terms of the match, Warner was caught down leg off Shardul Thakur’s delivery just before the end of the first session. In the second session, Mohammed Shami bowled a beautiful delivery to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne for 26 runs. However, Travis Head and Steve Smith took Australia to above 300 on Day 1.
