Bichagadu 2 is a standalone sequel to the 2016 blockbuster, Bichagadu. Actor Vijay Antony has made his directorial debut with this sequel, which created a decent buzz with its promotional content. The flick hit screens today and you can check out our review to know how it is.

    Story:

Vijay Gurumurthy (Vijay Antony) is the 7th richest person in India. His colleague and friend Aravind (Dev Gill), along with his gang, kills Vijay for his wealth and replaces his brain with the brain of Satya (Vijay Antony), a beggar. Satya avenges their actions by killing them and starts the Anti Bikili project. What is the Anti Bikili project? What led Satya to kill Aravind and others? Who is Satya and what is his backstory? The film has the answers.

    Plus Points:

The expectations on the film are high, as it is a sequel to the blockbuster Bichagadu. The makers have stated that it is a standalone sequel.

The storyline is neat, and Vijay Antony executes it well as a first-time director, especially in the first hour. The initial 30 minutes are particularly intriguing and crucial to the rest of the film.

As an actor, Vijay Antony delivers a decent performance, especially in the impressive climax scene.

Dev Gill, Hareesh Peradi, and John Vijay are satisfactory in their roles. The production values are neat, and the dubbing is good, giving the feel of a straight Telugu film.

    Minus Points:

While the storyline is nice, Vijay Antony could have narrated the story more engagingly in the second half, as he failed to keep the proceedings as interesting as the first half. A better screenplay for the second half could have made the film more engaging.

The idea of the Anti-Bikili project is good, but the implementation scenes could have been executed better. The director takes cinematic liberty for the scenes related to the Anti Bikili project.

Kavya Thapar’s character has little importance in the movie, and it is unclear what made her agree to the role. The emotional scenes between Satya and his sister Rani are not written well enough to connect with the audience emotionally, unlike in Bichagadu.

The forgettable songs, composed by Vijay Antony, and the casting of Yogi Babu and other actors seem to add little to the film. The makers should have paid more attention to the looks of Satya.

    Technical Aspects:

Vijay Antony deserves appreciation for his excellent contribution to the film, as he directed, composed music, edited, and also wrote the story. However, a better screenplay for the second half would have made the film more engaging.

The score is good, and Om Narayan’s cinematography is impressive. The Telugu dialogues by Basha are decent, and the production values are rich, providing an enjoyable experience on the big screen. The editing could have been better, especially in the second half.

    Verdict:

On the whole, Bichagadu 2 is a film that works in parts. The neat storyline, Vijay Antony’s performance, and emotional climax are the highlights of the film. Despite a few boring scenes, the film can be watched this weekend, but it is advisable to keep your expectations low.
