The two senior Karnataka leaders DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah seemed to be locked in a tussle for the crucial post of Karnataka chief minister after Congress got landslide on May 13 state assembly election, whose results were declared on Saturday.

Bengaluru: With the Congress leadership failing to decide on the name of Karnataka chief minister candidate, the two major contenders-DK Shivakumar And Siddaramaiah- are likely to head to New Delhi on Monday for a detailed discussion with the party high command.

Sources in the Congress said that party high command will want to ensure that the two Karataka stalwarts meet the Delhi leaders personally so that decision could be communicated to them to ensure a smooth transition.

Earlier, there were conflicting reports that a secret ballot was done during today’s Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meet at Bengaluru’s Shangri-La Hotel

Congress leader and former deputy CM Laxman Savadi also claimed secret ballot voting to choose the CM candidate.

The CLP meet on Sunday evening finally passed a resolution giving the responsibility of choosing the Karnataka CM to AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge .
During the CLP meet in Shangri-La hotel in Bengaluru, supporters of both DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah came to to the hotel and raised slogans in favour of their leaders. The supporters of both leaders tried to out scream each other at the hotel’s gate.
Gulberga MLA and Congress leader Kaneez Fatima skirted the question whether the new Congress govt lift the ban on hijab imposed by previous Bommai led BJP government. To this Kaneez said that their first priority was to choose the Karnataka CM. She also said that no secret voting was done to choose the new CM.
