UP Nagar Nikay (Municipal) Election Result 2023 Live Updates (May 13): Hailing the performance of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Uttar Pradesh Nagar Nikay Chunav, chief minister Yogi Adityanath today said that “compared to 2017 the BJP has won more than double seats in urban local body polls this year.” The BJP has maintained a clear lead in all 17 local bodies. “The BJP is on course to win all 17 local bodies. Our party has also performed very well in Nagar Nikay and Nagar Panchayat elections. I thank the people for reposing their electoral trust in us and assure them that the BJP will continue to take its welfare policies to the last man under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” deputy CM Brajesh Pathak was quoted saying by news agency ANI.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has till now recorded five wins in the UP Chunav polls – Ayodhya, Bareilly, Jhansi, Saharanpur and Vrindavan-Mathura – as per the UP state election commission. BJP candidate Bihari Lal Arya became the mayor from Jhansi after winning with a margin of over 83,000 votes. Meanwhile, Ajay Kumar won the post of Mayor in Saharanpur Municipal Corporation, and Girishpati Tripathi won from Ayodhya. BJP retained the Mayoral seat in Bareilly with its candidate Umesh Gautam winning for the second time in a row.
The Nagar Nikay Chunav polls were held in two phases — on May 4 and May 11. According to Election Commission data, about 53 per cent of voters exercised their franchise, out of the total 4.32 crore who were eligible. Seventeen mayors and 1,401 corporators will be elected once the results are out. As many as 19 corporators have been elected unopposed. Shahjahanpur will elect its mayor for the first time this year as the city became a municipal corporation in 2018, a year after the last civil polls were held in the state.
