As if H1B visa holders didn’t have enough problems, they now can’t even check-in for their flights without a headache. Lufthansa’s online check-in is rejecting travelers with valid visas, adding yet another layer of frustration.

A recent experience from an Indian employee highlights the issue. He was flying from Mumbai to Austin via Frankfurt but couldn’t check in online after entering his nationality—Indian—and country of residence—United States.

Reacting to his social media post, many H1B travelers say Lufthansa simply doesn’t allow web check-in unless you have a U.S. passport or green card. One person shared, “It doesn’t allow with green cards and Indian passports. It’s a stupid f***ing issue and they are aware of it. I have found that if you call to complain it magically works the next time.”

The airline insists on physical visa verification at the counter. This forces passengers to arrive early and stand in long lines.

Some tried workarounds, like changing the country of residence to India or re-entering details but it doesn’t resolve the issue for everyone. People even claim that this isn’t just a Lufthansa problem but Many airlines require in-person visa verification.
