Hyderabad: Two days after a kidney racket was busted in a private hospital in Saroornagar, preliminary probe has revealed the gang’s tentacles are spread in various parts of the country and also abroad.
Officials came to the conclusion after questioning two organ receivers who informed that mediators, who arranged the organ, had offered several locations for operation based on preference. “They were given a choice to have the transplant in Hyderabad, Bengal, Chennai or Sri Lanka. These two receivers from Bangalore preferred Hyderabad,” an official from the Rangareddy district collectorate said.
Officials said that the current case was clear evidence of a thriving organ transplant network where agents and hospitals from different states were working in coordination. Each organ receiver had paid 50 lakh to the broker. Donor and receiver had come to to Hyderabad 10 days prior to the surgery to undergo tests, officials said.
“By the time we reached the private hospital in Saroornagar, the transplant was done and the doctors who performed the surgeries had already left,” an official said.
Both the donors and receivers were shifted to Gandhi Hospital. Saroornagar police, who registered FIR against Alakananda Hospital, are on the lookout for doctors and agents. “We have some leads. The probe is still in the initial stage,” a cop said.
