Amidst the uncertainties on H-1B visas for Indians, many people might expect the number of Indian students in the country to decline. However, the experts differ on this general opinion as India remains the top sender of Indian students to the US.
In the past three years, Indian students’ enrollment in US universities has grown at an impressive 25% yearly rate. And despite the political changes, the trend is expected to remain upward, growing over 20% annually.

Saif Iqbal from ApplyBoard claims that American universities will continue to welcome 1.1 million international students every year. Another expert added that over 1,500 universities rely on foreign talent for research, innovation, and filling skill gaps in their workforce.
While there are major concerns over visa approval rates, the Indian community continues to grow strong in America with a record 331,000 students enrolling in colleges in 2024.

Moreover, Trump hasn’t directly targeted the students this time. The major focus of the new President is to restrict Indian employees and families.
These curbs might take a hit on the enrollment rate later, but since there are millions of Indians waiting to get their visas, it will remain steady for now. The US universities depend on Indian youth and any changes to F-1 visas will be a shock to these institutions.
