Transfer news LIVE! Arsenal battle for Cunha, Sesko update, Rashford in Barcelona talks, Man Utd’s Dorgu delay

“We’re maybe the worst Manchester United team in history” – Amorim

Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United are among those to watch in the finals days of the January transfer window as clubs in the Premier League and across the world look to wrap up deals before the deadline.

The Gunners are desperate to sign a striker but face competition from United over Sporting forward Viktor Gyokeres, while a move for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko looks unlikely this month despite being aware of a clause that allows the forward to leave the German club in 2025.

Elsewhere, Manchester City announced the signing of defender Vitor Reis and Chelsea could enter talks with Juventus for striker Dusan Vlahovic, with out-of-favour striker Christopher Nkunku set to leave this month.

Manchester United have opened talks with Lecce for defender Patrick Dorgu as Ruben Amorim prioritises signing a left back. But the club need to sell to buy, with Alejandro Garnacho and Antony set to leave.

Marcus Rashford is also looking for a move away from Old Trafford, with his representative having met Barcelona executives in Lisbon before the Catalan club’s dramatic 5-4 win against Benfica.

Follow all the latest news, rumours and deals below, plus analysis on the done deals and where new signings will fit into the starting line-ups:

Garnacho update

Fabrizio Romano’s latest update on the saga surrounding Alejandro Garnacho suggests that Napoli have made an opening bid “worth €50m” including add-ons.

United are said to want a higher fee – with some reports suggesting a sum closer to £75m – though Romano adds that “Antonio Conte keeps pushing after the call with Garnacho on Friday”.

Chelsea have “made contact with United and player side, now deciding internally whether to bid or not,” adds Romano.

Chelsea, Arsenal, PSG and Tottenham are the clubs mentioned in the report, with Chelsea and Arsenal having been linked to him on several occasions in the past.

Dorgu latest

More on the situation surrounding Man Utd target Patrick Dorgu, with Lecce club president Sticchi Damiani telling Sky Sports that the club “met with Man United and we told them that our plan is to keep our key players, including Patrick Dorgu”.

“We’re delighted to have Man United here to make a proposal but our target to stay in Serie A is crucial”, added Damiani.

Rashford’s reps meet with Barca

Yesterday, Sky Sports reported that Marcus Rashford’s representatives met with Barcelona executives in Lisbon to discuss a potential deal.

Other reports claim that Barcelona is Rashford’s preferred destination, though the Catalan club would have to free up wage space in order to sign him on loan. To that end, they are currently looking at exits for Eric Garcia and Ansu Fati.

Speaking yesterday, Barcelona director Deco said that the club “are dealing with the issue of [financial] fair-play”.

“n the final days, if the team can be strengthened, we will try, but as of today there is nothing,” he added.

The Sky report does add that “a deal for Rashford to leave Manchester United in this window is looking increasingly difficult”.

Man Utd have four-man striker list

The Daily Mail reported yesterday that Man Utd have a four-man target list for a striker to sign this window.

Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha of Wolves, Ipswich’s Liam Delap and Lille’s Jonathan David – who scored against Liverpool last night – are supposedly the four men on Amorim’s shortlist.

United have also been linked to Sporting’x Viktor Gyokores, who of course has a history with Ruben Amorim, though it is thought that doing a deal for the Swedish striker would be too difficult this month.

Diego Carlos leaves Villa for Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce have agreed a deal to sign Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos.

The Brazilian centre-back, who joined Villa from Sevilla in 2022, will travel to Istanbul for a medical and to discuss personal terms.

Carlos has not been involved in the last five matches for Villa and the news of his impending exit was announced by the Turkish club while Villa were in Champions League action against Monaco.

“Our club has reached an agreement in principle with the club for the transfer of Diego Carlos, who plays for Aston Villa,” Fenerbahce said in a statement on X.

“The Brazilian player has been invited to Istanbul for health checks and to further the transfer negotiations.”

Barring any hitches in the next few days, Carlos will join Jose Mourinho’s side for a reported 10m euros (£8.45m) in their push for the Turkish Super Lig title.

He played 58 times for the Premier League outfit and scored one goal.
