Emergency on Netflix: Uncut Release Rumors

Kangana Ranaut’s political drama Emergency, set during India’s 1975 Emergency period, has been considered a box office failure. Released on January 17, 2025, the film failed to recover its ₹60 crore production budget.

Despite its ambitious premise, the movie earned just ₹11.35 crore in four days. Mixed negative reviews, stiff competition from other releases, and limited appeal among its target audience have played a big hand in its underwhelming performance.

Fans have taken to social media to express their interest in watching an uncut version of the film on the OTT platform.

The censor board had to cut a lot of scenes from the film for it to be released in the theatres, but will Netflix take the risk of releasing the uncut version on OTT?

Emergency is an example of how people won’t watch a film in the theatres unless a star is involved or it has a never-before-seen concept.

Fans are hoping to see the unfiltered version of Kangana’s Emergency but only time will tell if the OTT platform is willing to take the big risk.
