In an awe-inspiring tribute to India’s military legacy, the 77th Army Day celebrations in Pune transformed history and mythology into a vibrant spectacle using cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI). The grand event, titled ‘Gaurav Gatha,’ blended ancient traditions with modern technology to captivate an audience that included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi.
A visual feast of valor and history
Hosted at the Bhagat Pavilion in Khadki, the nearly 90-minute extravaganza featured AI-generated images, combat demonstrations, laser shows, and drones.

From the battlefields of the Ramayana and Mahabharata to the Indo-Pak wars, the event vividly illustrated the evolution of Indian warriors. Themes such as Prachin Ranniti (ancient warfare), Shaurya Gatha (tales of bravery), and Samarth Bharat, Saksham Sena (capable India, empowered Army) showcased India’s rich military heritage.
The show began with a dazzling display of fireworks, setting the tone for an electrifying narrative. AI-generated moving images brought to life Hanuman leaping across Lanka, Lord Krishna guiding Arjuna in Kurukshetra, and historical figures like Rani Laxmibai and freedom fighters in action.
A glimpse into modern warfare
Cutting-edge combat demonstrations included tanks, drones, and the Army’s robotic mule, which made its debut earlier in the day during the Army Day parade. Traditional martial arts like Gatka and Kalaripayattu also highlighted India’s indigenous fighting techniques.
Raj Vardhan Patil, a college student and NCC cadet, called the experience “surreal.” “The AI visuals made it feel like history was unfolding before our eyes,” he said, describing how legendary figures seemed to leap out of history books.
Project Udbhav: Bridging past and future
The narration also emphasized Project Udbhav, an Army initiative to incorporate ancient Indian strategies into modern military practices. By revisiting epics and historic battles, the project aims to enrich India’s defence strategy for future challenges.
A patriotic finale
As the night sky lit up with a drone show depicting the Kargil war and other post-independence battles, the crowd was immersed in a sense of pride and patriotism. For the first time in history, Pune—home to the Southern Command—hosted the annual parade, making this Army Day celebration truly unforgettable.
The fusion of tradition, technology, and storytelling marked a milestone in how India celebrates its military heritage, leaving the audience inspired and brimming with national pride.
