Tollywood’s Flop Director Ramesh Varma: 200-Cr Superhero Film

To succeed in the film industry, talent alone isn’t enough—one also needs a stroke of luck, as many say. Looking at some filmmakers, this seems to hold true.

Directors like Meher Ramesh and Ramesh Varma fall into this category. Despite working with big stars, they have yet to deliver a major hit.

Ramesh Varma has directed films like Oka Oorilo, Ride, Veera, Rakshasudu, and Khiladi.

Out of these, only Ride and Rakshasudu were average hits, while the rest flopped. However, even these films were not massive successes; they just performed decently at the box office. With such a track record, heroes and producers typically avoid working with such directors.

Yet, Ramesh Varma continues to receive movie offers. The reason for this is his support from producers like Kona Venkat.

Currently, Ramesh Varma is working on a film titled Kalabhairav, starring Raghava Lawrence, with a rumored budget of around ₹80 crore. While this film is still in production, he has already secured another big project with a Bollywood star.

It’s said that Ramesh Varma recently pitched a story to Bollywood star Ajay Devgn, who has given the green light to the project tentatively titled Super Hero. Devi Sri Prasad is composing the music for the film.

The film is expected to be a mass-action entertainer, with a budget of approximately Rs. 200 crores.

The official announcement of this project is expected soon, and the film may start production in September 2025.

Bollywood stars must realize that not all directors are like Rajamouli, Vanga, or Sukumar.
