Security was strengthened in Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal’s old city area on Tuesday (December 24, 2024) after two groups clashed with each other with stones and sticks, resulting in injuries to at least five people, police said.
According to the police, the incident took place in the Jahangirabad area of old Bhopal and the clashes on Tuesday were an aftermath of an altercation that took place between the two sides due to overspending of motorcycles by some boys.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Bhopal Zone 1, Priyanka Shukla told The Hindu that a case had been filed on Sunday and three boys had been arrested while two were absconding.
“On Tuesday, the other side spotted one of the absconding boys in the locality so 25-30 people charged at him with sticks and swords. They broke into his house, vandalised items and beat up some family members too,” she said.
Ms. Shukla said that the remaining two boys from Sunday have been arrested now but the accused from the clashes are currently on the run.
“We have formed teams to nab them and they will be arrested soon,” she said, adding that a case against them has been filed for rioting, house break, physical assault and other offences.
She said that five-six people have received minor injuries in the clashes and that situation is under police’s control.
“We already had people in the area so when the clashes broke out, they immediately alerted the control room and the adequate force reached them within five minutes,” she added.
